1. What is the study about?
You are invited to participate in a study investigating the usage, enablers and barriers, and perceptions to using a taxonomy (language classification system such as the NCPT) in sports dietetics. We hope to learn about the perceptions of sports dietitians and other health professionals regarding usage, perceptions, and enablers and barriers to using a taxonomy.
2. Do I have to participate?
Being part of this study is voluntary. If you want to be part of the study we ask that you read the information below carefully.
You can read the information below and decide at the end if you do not want to participate. If you decide not to participate this won't affect your relationship with La Trobe University or any other listed organisation.
3. Who is being asked to participate?
You have been asked to participate because:
- You are a member of Sports Dietitians Australia.
4. What will I be asked to do?
If you want to take part in this study, we will ask you to complete a survey on RedCap whereby all answers will be anonymous. It will take approximately 10-15 minutes of your time to be part of this study.
5. What are the benefits?
This study aims to analyse the enablers and barriers to utilising a taxonomy. The implications of the findings from this study can lead to recommendations in how utilisation of a taxonomy can be implemented in sports dietetics. Implementing a taxonomy could lead to an increase in the quality and consistency of dietetic care to the athlete as it provides a standardised language and also helps capture data for the practitioner. Additionally, capturing the data through a taxonomy can work as evidence for sports dietitians to advocate for their importance in athletic performance and thus advocate for increased employment opportunities and stability.
6. What are the risks?
With any study there are (1) risks we know about, (2) risks we don't know about, and (3) risks we don't expect. If you experience something that you aren't sure about, please contact us immediately so we can discuss the best way to manage your concerns.
For this study there are 2 identified risks which will be minimised. They are:
- Risk of survey causing discomfort. This will be minimised via researchers cross checking the survey to make sure no distressing questions are asked. Participants may also exit the survey at any time.
- Risk of potentially being identified in the study. This will be minimised via de-identification.
In both cases participants are encouraged to contact investigators listed on the PICF if they have any questions or concerns. Additionally, participants are encouraged to utilise the support services available to them (link at the bottom of the page) if they feel inclined to do so.
