  1. What is the study about?

You are invited to participate in a study about the ways that parents and carers of school aged dependent(s) understand topics of sexual literacy, wellbeing and relationships. We hope to learn how parents and carers feel they are able to talk to their partners, friends, healthcare providers, counsellors or other professionals, and their dependents about topics of sex and relationships. The aim is to identify support needs of parents and carers with respect to sexual literacy and supporting their dependent's relationship and sexuality education.

  1. Do I have to participate?

Being part of this study is voluntary. If you want to be part of the study we ask that you read the information below carefully.

You can read the information below and decide at the end if you do not want to participate. If you decide not to participate this won't affect your relationship with La Trobe University or any other listed organisation (e.g., Australian Department of Health and Aged Care).

  1. Who is being asked to participate?

You have been asked to participate because:

  • You reside in Australia;
  • Are aged over 18 years
  • Are the parent or carer of a school aged dependent (aged 5-18)

  1. What will I be asked to do?

If you want to take part in this study, we will ask you to complete a short survey containing questions about topics of sexual literacy, wellbeing, and relationships. It will take approximately 30 minutes of your time to be part of this study.

  1. What are the benefits?

The benefit of you taking part in this study is that you will help to support a greater understanding of the sexual literacy needs of parents and carers and have an opportunity to reflect on your own experiences of learning and talking to your dependent about sex and relationships. The expected benefits to society in general are an increase in knowledge and understanding which will provide an informed basis for improving policy, regulatory, and educational responses in this area.

You will also be reimbursed for you participation via Dynata in the form of points which are able to redeemed in the form of a gift card or PayPal transfer. After the completion of this survey you will be awarded 4000 points, equivalent to $4.

  1. What are the risks?

With any study there are (1) risks we know about, (2) risks we don't know about, and (3) risks we don't expect. If you experience something that you aren't sure about, please contact us immediately so we can discuss the best way to manage your concerns.
